Christ Chapel Cochran is a new campus in the middle Georgia area, but the seeds of its inception were planted as far back as 1988. It was the year that Cochran’s Campus Pastor, Scott Morris, was saved, but it was also the year that God gave him a vision for his future ministry.

Someone has defined “vision” as a “clear, mental picture of what could be, fueled by the conviction that it should be.” From the beginning, Scott had a vision for a gathering of God’s people who were truly hungry for the person and presence of Jesus Christ. They would be real people – flawed and imperfect, but they would be in love with Jesus and others. Guarding and following man-made traditions and denominational rituals would not be their focus; instead, they would seek to make God famous by passionately following His Word and going wherever His Holy Spirit led. By creating an environment of freedom and acceptance, those that were hurting and broken could find an oasis, a refuge, in this life. God’s Word would be the foundation, God’s glory would be the purpose, and being God-centered and others-minded would be the theme. This was the strong conviction that Scott had; it was what he believed the church could and should be.

After fifteen years of pastoral ministry, Scott has finally seen God’s vision come to fruition by being able to lead the Christ Chapel campus in Cochran. He and his wife Jennifer have been married for 12 years, and they have been blessed with four children: Benjamin, Mary Grace, Anna, and Sarah. Jennifer has devoted her life to homeschooling their children, and is now taking classes towards a cardiovascular degree.

Dick Alexander said, “With the amount of human need touching us today, the church can scarcely afford business as usual. Only churches serious about rescuing the hurting will survive and make a difference.” This is the heartbeat of Christ Chapel Cochran – to rescue the hurting, to make a difference.
