Jeremy is a 16 year old in our Macon youth group. Two weeks ago he was admitted to the ICU with an enlarged heart. He had been sick with a virus and was just getting no better. After a trip to the ER his heart was found to be critically enlarged. He was transfered to Atlanta with a chance of needing a heart transplant. As of this Sunday the doctors planed to implant a pacemaker by Tuesday or Wednesday, but then today this update came from his mom.
The cardiologists had a consultation and found that due to that Jeremy has had no irregularities in the heart beat in the past few days (few - ?) ... by the way his BNP # came down... they recommended that they hold off on the icd and pacemaker unit placement. They said that his echo showed very minor improvement... not significant in their opinion, but minor improvement. But they believe that because of the other clinical observations that if in the next couple of days everything goes well and nothing new develops that he should be able to go home by the end of the week. He will be restricted in activities of course but they would like to see him back to school as soon as possible with accommodations made due to his condition. They are hoping that as the infection has cleared up that so the heart would improve... but unknown at this time. He will follow up with the cardiologist next week. They certainly made the disclaimer that they can never say what is best with 100% certainty particularly in a case such as his. They did say that a pacemaker insertion may be a conversation to have again later or the possibility of him having to carry a heart monitor for a little while. However... I find rest in this news. I believe God is at work!
